National Transport Policy
Due to increased economic growth in the country, the transport sector has to keep in step with it and support the national goal of 7+ per cent annual growth of the economy in the short to medium term. National Transport Policy is being prepared with this objective. It would establish a transport system that provides efficient, safe, reliable, equitable and environment friendly access and mobility for people and goods, thereby supporting the Government’s goal of increasing public welfare through economic growth, human development and poverty reduction. The transport system should meet the collective and individual transport needs at the least possible cost to the national economy besides ensuring optimum utilization of available resources. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has extended technical assistance for the formulation of a comprehensive and integrated National Transport Policy of Pakistan. The comprehensive transport policy is expected to be completed through a consultative process with the various stakeholders during 2006-07.
