Bus Train

NTRC Bus Train was designed and developed by NTRC in collaboration with the Trailer Development Corporation (TDC) and the defunct Karachi Transport Corporation (KTC) as a low cost mass transit facility in 1989. The Bus Train was operated in Karachi from 1989 to 1990 through the Karachi Transport Corporation and later between Rawalpindi and Islamabad from 1991 to 1993 through the Punjab Road Transport Corporation (PRTC). It remained under the use of SAF Games Secretariat from 2001 to 2003. On the request of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), NTRC Bus Train was provided to them in March 2006 to facilitate the commuter traffic due to public transporters strike. Later on the Islamabad Traffic Police requested to retain the Bus Train for trial operations. Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) carried out overhauling of the Bus Train and started its trial operations on various routes. At present the Bus Train is being operated from Pak Secretariat to G-9 and from Karal Chowk to Faisal Mosque with the basic objective of creating awareness about traffic safety, rules and to assist commuter journey of low income travelers on no profit, no loss basis by charging a nominal fare of Rs.5/- per trip to meet the operating costs of the Bus Train.
