• To undertake research studies in the field of Transport Planning and Engineering so that transport projects and plans are based on planning assumptions determined specifically for Pakistani conditions. 

• To provide countrywide transport information especially in the highly fragmented sub sectors of Roads and Road Transport. 

• To implement/execute pilot demonstration projects to establish the viability of research efforts. 

• To arrange training courses, seminars, etc. in the field of Transport Planning and Engineering.
